Today Jaymz Marsters give us an exclusive inside scoop on Manic Panic’s brand new professorial only colour line…
Here is our Q & A with Jaymz Marsters:
Tell us about your recent trip to New York for the launch of the new Manic Panic Professional colour line at the International Beauty Show? What where some of the highlights for you? What did you think of the USA?
Being asked to travel from the UK to New York to be one of the very first stylists to showcase this amazing colour to other professionals was the main highlight for me. With such a fun and busy packed weekend at IBS the team and myself managed to sell out of the product within the first day!
The USA was amazing and so was the food portions! I’m looking forward to visiting again at Premier Orlando in June this year!
What do you think is the most rewarding/exciting/best part of being a Manic Panic Artistic Brand Ambassador?
Educating other like minded colourist whether they are just starting out in their career or have been colouring for many years has to be the best part of being an Artistic Ambassador. Watching as they progress throughout their knowledge and skills using Manic Panic getting more daring with their clients colours and no long restricting themselves to natural colouring.
ABOVE: Jaymz used the new Manic Panic professional hair colour ‘Celestine Blue’ to create the root shadow. Then the ‘Celestine Blue’ is blended out into ‘Blue Bayou’ in the mid lengths. The green on the ends was a custom mix of ‘Blue Bayou’ + ‘Pastel-izer’ + ‘Solar Yellow’. Watch the step by step guide video here.
ABOVE: Jaymz used the new Manic Panic professional hair colour ‘Smoke Screen’, mixed with the transparent ‘Pastel-izer’ to created this reflective smokey silver. Manic Panic professional ‘Celestine Blue’ was used to do the deep indigo dip colour on the ends. Read the full step by step guide here.
Tell us about the new colours… What do you like better about the new professional line over the classic or amplified formula?
The new Professional colours have no odor and are a gel based constancy which are applied onto damp hair. Unlike the Classic and Amplified, which work on dry and damp, these new colours are only meant for towel dried hair. Meaning you cut out a huge amount of time between processes as you no longer have to dry the hair.
Each shade has built in porosity equalizers so you get an even result even on porous hair. The formulas contain castor oil and lactic acid to calm down and reduce split ends. Plus added moisture retention so that the hair is soft to touch. The acidic formula keeps the cuticle closed making the colours last 40+ shampoos. The colours only fade out on depth and not tone. No more nasty green fading from purple tones, just nice soft shades of the original colour.
The new Manic Panic Professional line consists of 12 colours, some of which glow under black light (UV). Included is the new smoke screen, this can be used on its own to create a deep slate grey or as a mix to smoke out any of the shades. A pro pastel-izer is also available which can be used either as a conditioning treatment on all hair types or to lock in ANY colour service whether it’s a semi or permanent. This Pastel-izer contains all the added benefits of the colours and is transparent, like glass. Creating pastel shades has never been easier!
Love Power Purple
Which are your top 3 shades from the new Manic Panic Professional line up and why?
I’ve always loved yellow so Solar yellow is defiantly a winner for me! In comparison it is a lighter version of Sunshine from the Classic range but with added longevity.
Smoke Screen is second, its great for smoking out root shades to give a more organic feel to your vivid colouring and even adding a drop of Velvet Violet into your formula works great at smoking out natural bases as well for them clients who hate their natural warmth.
Blue Bayou comes in third, a medium turquoise. It has the right amount of depth to not give you that overly grungy look but in fact give you a more ocean / sky blue with no added green tones like some turquoise give.
ABOVE: Jaymz used the new Manic Panic professional hair colour to creatie this 「Scorching」design colour melt. Jaymz used ‘Red Velvet’ to create the root shadow. Then the ‘Red Velvet’ is blended out into a custom mix of 60g ‘Solar Yellow’ + 20g ‘Pussycat Pink’ in the mid lengths. On the ends Jaymz used ‘Solar Yellow’. Watch the step by step guide video here.
How easy will it be to remove/swap and change the new Manic Panic Professional colours?
Like with all direct dyes the current canvas and hairs condition should take priority. If the hair is damaged take into account no matter what method of removal you choose you will be creating excessive damage jeopardizing your chances of removing any colour completely. I always advise my clients to let their colour fade naturally allowing the hair to rest before moving on to another colour off the spectrum. Always revert back to your colour wheel when changing up your clients shade.
How different will the new professional line be to the new Manic Panic Formula 40 (currently only available in Hot Topic USA)?
Formula 40 is only available in Hot Topic USA and is an additional add on to the amplified and classic range. It does not contain the same benefits or formula as the Manic Panic Professional range. Formula40 will be available to purchased by non professionals and only comes in colours already available in the classic and amplified range. The new Professional line is for licensed stylists ONLY and features shades which can not be found or purchased anywhere else.
Do you have any tips or advice for colourist using the new Manic Panic Professional colours for the first time?
Make sure the hair is towel dried and not soaking wet, plus there is no need to extend your processing time longer than the recommended 30 mins. These colours will not give you extra longevity if left on longer, you will still get your 40+ shampoos on the correct canvas.
Do you know if Manic Panic will be providing any support/training to salons using the new colours?
Manic Panic UK’s YouTube channel currently has two educational videos featuring myself utilizing the new Manic Panic Professional shades and creating some custom mixes for my clients.
