Peacock Ombre Hair Colour
Culture Magazine’s FINDING FANTASIA issue (VOL 16 NO. 04) cover image feature’s a stunning peacock ombre hair colour by colourist Richi Grisillo. Grisillo is a shining light within the Toni & Guy ranks and also one of the nicest chaps you’ll meet around the traps. Not only does this guy have a unique eye for the melding of hair, fashion and beauty, but also pretty impressive resumes that back up his creativity, which is inspiring in itself and makes him a fantastic role model for emerging young stylists to aspire to. Grisillo talks to Culture Magazine about this colour, sharing his formulas and inspirations.
A vivid contradiction between colourful composition and dark moodiness.
A story of bird life. Visual exploration of their spirited existence… flying free, perching and preening.
The Formula and Application:
I started by pre-lightening to a clean blonde, rinsed and worked with Wella Koleston Perfect special mix tones /33 /28 /88 and Wella Color.id in horizontal bands with a soft ‘zig-zag’ direction to create a seamless blend and help defuse the areas where the different colour meet. The invisiDevider Technology in Color.id is the key to creating this barrier within the colour to prevent them running together – it gives a more controlled application from working deeper colours into lighter.
To Style. I played with a more diffused application by lightly backcombing the hair. For a high sheen I applied label.m Shine Mist on dry hair and then used a curling iron to create soft movement from the ear down. the final touch was to set with label.m Hairspray and brush it out.
I really wanted to create the illusion of feathers and weightlessness – an overtly artistic approach whilst still staying true to my style and aesthetic.
I coloured the backdrop myself using Wella Perfection on calico cotton fabric. Messy but effective!
