Pastel hair in Marie Claire
Bright hair colour has become more popular and accepted in mainstream fashion than ever before, especially with the pastel hair trend. This month Marie Claire features the work of colourist Aura Friedman. Aura has worked with celebrity clients such as Sophie Dahl, Sasha Baron Cohen, M.I.A, and Lady Gaga. Her work has been featured in publications such as Elle, Dazed & Confused and Vogue.
Here she discusses how to rock extreme pastel hair colour in the mainstream fashion world. Aura comments on todays modern pastel trend comparing it to the more intense punk colours of the past. She discusses using complimentary colours, grunge tones gone luxury and use of light and dark shades reflecting the hairs natural tones.
“Lavender is very soft and sweet, and the little bit’s of yellow give it a complementary tone that makes it stand out more” says Friedman, who notes that today’s pastel lend a refinement to harsh punk colours of the past.
“This look is a little bit stronger and gives you a fall feeling. It’s unusual and fun.” DIY hair chalks and sprays can give you a similar look and they’re easy to wash out.
“The pastel blue changes to almost sea-foam green towards the bottom, which mimics the way natural hair might be: brighter at the top and lighter on the ends”
“Acid tones walk more on the grungy side, but this interpretation is more modern and luxurious-looking”
